Ebook Distribution

If you would like your ebook to be distributed to the most important ebook vendors, look no further. Or you may be interested in print-on-demand distribution in Australia and globally. Our direct relationship with these vendors means we have precise and immediate access to your book's meta-data, which provides great value for you in utilising whatever means are available to help sell your book on each vendor.

If you would rather keep your upfront costs low and maximise your returns later, you might like to consider getting our assistance to teach you how to set up your own accounts. Or we can do it for you as your publishing consultant (hourly rate).

If you'd like to have our assistance with writing cutting edge meta-data please visit our book marketing page.

What does it cost for AEP to distribute ebooks?

Choose the right option for you.

Pay $199 up-front and receive 85% of net receipts.
Australian eBook Publisher offers ebook aggregation direct to vendors including Apple, Amazon, GooglePlay, Kobo, Overdrive and EBSCO. We set up a one-year contract with you that offers you 85% of the net receipts.

We keep 15% commission to help pay for our custom-made Royalties Database, to pay our qualified staff for the time it takes to manage the ebooks that are up for sale, pay royalties quarterly and generate a corresponding sales report.

Our sales reports are simple, accurate and easy for Australian authors to understand. Those from the distributors themselves are not consistent nor are they easy to understand. We have an ebook Aggregator Conversion and Distribution Contract that outlines the details.

Renewal of publishing contract
After the term of each book aggregation contract expires, our management team considers whether to continue in the business relationship we entered into with you. If your contract is approved for renewal, we charge a contract renewal fee to keep your ebook up for sale for a further year. Our processes are human, not automated, so that's why we require this small extra commitment from you every year.

Our pricing structure is competitive and you have the advantage of dealing with us, your personal assisted self-publishing experts right here in Australia. If this model is not for you, we are happy to offer publishing consultation to assist you to go direct or use another aggregator.

Perhaps you'd rather go direct to ebook vendors yourself. This may be possible for you. Read Amanda's blog post on What's involved in self-distribution of ebooks direct to vendors?

Distribution Only
As of March 2018 we are no longer offering stand-alone aggregation services. Instead, please engage our managing director, Amanda Greenslade for a publishing consultation. She will discuss how you can distribute your book or ebook directly to the vendors or aggregator that will work best for you.

Getting paid by an eBook Aggregator in Australia
Like the ebook vendors (Apple, Amazon etc.), we pay our authors once a certain minimum amount is owed, in our case this is AUD$100. All accounts are settled quarterly, with the applicable sales reports included.

Taxes on ebooks
The governments of some countries require the prices of ebooks to include sales tax. For example GST in Australia, VAT in the UK etc. Vendors with a business operation in that country either remit such taxes directly to the government of that country or pay them to the publisher. In the latter case, the publisher needs to either remit the tax to the government or if the author is registered for GST to the author for them to pass to the government.

Some further points of clarification:

  • Unless shown otherwise on your sales receipt, all royalties are exclusive of Goods and Services Tax (GST).
  • Prices set by you for books for sale include any applicable sales taxes.
  • If the Client is registered for GST it is the Client’s responsibility to remit the GST component of Net Receipts for sales made in Australia (that the Aggregator has paid to the Client) to the ATO.

Publishing ebooks: whether you are a publisher or an individual or a business
Australian eBook Publisher offers consultation services for publishers as well as tips for self-publishers here.

Please note: Sales and payment data from the vendors Overdrive, Audible, EBSCO and Barnes & Noble Nook will not be available in our Royalties Dashboard, but will be accounted manually once per annum at the same time as one of our usual royalties payments (quarterly) and paid out only if you are owed at least AUD$100. For details please refer to your contract.
