What size should an ebook cover be designed as?

How to format ebooks - cover, copyright page and hyphenation

Design it at 1562 x 2500 pixels at 300 dpi in Photoshop. Save it down to 1400 pixels wide for distribution on Apple and Amazon using File -> Save For Web. If it needs to be smaller to pass validation anywhere else, it’s very easy to create a smaller file, however it is never easy to go from smaller to larger. By using the above dimensions you’ve created a front cover design large enough for printing a 132.25 x 211.67 mm book.

What should be on the copyright page of an ebook?

This depends on the needs and arrangements between the publisher, author, artist, designer etc. and the original source book. The following are two quick sets of front matter (publication details) that we use in ebooks. You’re welcome to copy it and update it to your own content, however Australian eBook Publisher accepts no responsibility for any matters arising as a result of using or not using the below:

Can hyphenation be turned off in an ebook?

Apart from a coding workaround only for iPad (using what is called webkit code), it is not possible to switch of hyphenation in ebooks, nor do I recommend it. Hyphenation is controlled on devices. As you can imagine, this helps with the device's capability to reflow content on whatever size screen the person is reading the book on.
